Phased Array for Scalability Satellite Operations

Goonhilly developed and built a prototype phased-array of multiple small Ku-band terminals with an FPGA-based RF capture and correlation platform. Various practical aspects such as the efficiency impacts of weather and component stability were investigated with reception of geostationary satellite signals. Routes to scaling up of the system for deep-space applications were studied, as well as an array of low complexity static antennas for fast tracking of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) spacecraft.

Waveguide Switch for W-Band Spaceborne Communication

Goonhilly lent its depth of spacecraft communications knowledge to assist Flann Microwave and Teddington Electronics to jointly develop a precision-engineered waveguide switch for satellites at W-band (74-112 GHz), enabling cost- and power-efficient super-high capacity satellite communications and new applications in Earth Observation.
